

He was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas until he moved to Houston in 1941. After he finished high school he joined the United States Navy, a veteran of the Korean War, he completed his service to the United States in 1956.
Ray was a man full of life who could bring joy and a smile to any room. He loved his family and his work more than anything in the world. He was an officer with the South Houston Police Department from 1973 to 1998. While he retired at the rank of Captain, he always said that his best days were those when he was the Commander of the Harris County Organized Crime Unit, where he was known as “Bear.”
Ray was also a long time member of the South Houston Masonic Lodge as well as a former President of the Texas Narcotic Officers Association.
He is preceded in death by his father, Warren P. Jones, his mother, Clara Ann Wruble and step-father, Albert “Poppy” Wruble. He is survived by children, Patty Banks and husband Rick, Sharon Highfill, Kimberly Chermak, and husband Steve and Joyce Galbreath and husband Bruce. He is also survived by many loving grand children and great grand children. He had many loved ones but he never met someone who he didn’t immediately consider a friend. The family would like to thank the staff of Paramount Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Pasadena Texas for taking such great care of him for the last three years. They would also like to thank Dr. Kahn and the team at Davita Dialysis on Scarsdale Boulevard.
Funeral arrangements will be held on Monday the 17th at 11am in the Main Chapel of Forest Park Lawndale with interment immediately following services.A visitation is scheduled for Sunday the 16th at Forest Park Lawndale from 4 to 8pm.
