To my oldest friends and family in Houston...
There are a flood of funny and wonderful memories when I think of my little brother, Doug-Bug.
The Coker’s met the Chandler’s when we moved in across the street on Viking Drive the summer of 1976.  Our lives would never be the same, for the better, of course.  We became like second families to each other when Kelly and I became best friends and my little brother, Mark, and Doug became best friends.  They played football and everything else outside where Doug loved to be the most.  I’ve never known anyone who loved the outdoors like Douglas did...football, baseball, hunting and, especially, fishing.
He was one of the funniest people I’ve ever met, too! He could tell a story like no one else.  He was hilarious with all his antics, and could find humor in the saddest and most embarrassing moments. I miss him and his humor so much.
Doug loved his family and friends and would help with anything you needed.  My mother could always call on Doug if my little brother wasn’t available...he would climb onto our roof and sweep off the leaves and pine needles every year.  Who else would think of that, and then take time to come over and do it without having to be asked?  Everyone on Viking knew and loved Doug.  He was an important part of so many families.  He loved his parents, sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. 
He loved his son, Devin, to the moon and back, and was so proud of him. Doug passed on his love of the outdoors to Devin and taught him everything he knew.  Devin is a fine sportsman as a result and has the same respect and appreciation for nature and all its resources.
I know everyone misses Doug, but I believe he’s in Heaven now serving his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  I’m happy that he has found peace with the Creator of his beloved natural world.

I am very sorry for your loss. I knew Doug through his sister, my close friend and "second mother" - Kelly.  I actually saw him again recently (July 4th in fact) and thought only to myself how handsome and sweet he is. He carried my bags to the car even though I could manage since I was walking out as he was walking in. He did the perfect and gentleman thing to do; he carried the bags, said hello & nice to see you again, gave a big smile and hugged me goodbye. I did not know him well, just a few meetings at holidays and a few run-ins here and there visiting the family; however I am very aware that a good heart has stopped beating and a good soul ascended to heaven.

Doug seemed to have this thoughtfulness towards children he was around or knew. He just wanted them to be happy. I can still see the love and kindness in his face when he was around Emily. Just recently giving her a hug good-bye saying love you baby girl. 
I'm especially grateful for the love, support and encouragement he had for my grandson, Spencer. 
He will be missed.

I believe you were 8 or 9 years old, when we moved on the block? I remember seeing this small kid out playing in the street. You had a big ol' smile on your face always.  As my brother Mark said, our best memories are growing up on Viking with the Chandlers. Dougger - you will be missed so much, but I know you are in Heaven as you were an Angel on this Earth. Some didn't know you that way, but I (we) did. Love you always Doug. Rest in Peace our friend.

We were "River Rats" for 25 years and I miss the river, now we have lost you. Just too much to handle. You were my son from another Mother. I will hold all the fun times we spent together in my thoughts forever. All my prayers to your family and all your many friends. God be with you Chandler.

I had the pleasure of growing up next door to Doug and it would take me all day to tell you about the hunting, fishing and stupid things we did. I'm having a very difficult time with this because we really were like family. God Speed Doug, your laughter smile and sense of humor will be missed by all. Love You my little brother.

From the first time I met you as a young boy you made me laugh.. You were fun loving and you had an incredible personality.
