

Pastor Gibbs was born November 9, 1920 in Eagle Lake, Texas and was the proud son of the late Pastor/Moderator Walter L. and Clara Gibbs. He was the seventh of twelve children, ten boys and two girls. In 1939, he moved to Houston, Texas. June 23, 1943 he met and married Miss Willie May Gordon. They were married for 56 years until her death. Lee Earl accepted the call to preach God’s word in 1950. In 1953 he and his wife move to Los Angeles, California. Education: Reverend Gibbs attended the Eagle Lake Public Schools and graduated from Eagle Lake High School. He is a graduate of Erma Hughes Business College in Houston, Texas. During his twenty three years in Los Angeles, he attended Conroe Industrial College (an extension of the Conroe College of Texas) in San Francisco, California; there he received a Bachelor of Theology Degree (BTH) in 1956. He attended Pepperdine University in Los Angeles and earned a Master’s Degree in Theology (MTH) in 1960. In 1964 he received a Doctorate Degree in Theology (THD) Pasturage: Gibbs began his pasturage in Los Angeles, California at Bethlehem Baptist Church in 1959. During his tenure in California, he also pastored Independent Baptist Church and Greater New Light Baptist Church of Pomona, California before returning to Houston, Texas in 1975. Upon his return to Houston, he pastored Mt. Rose Baptist Church, New Mt. Sinai Baptist church, Evans Chapel Baptist Church, Retired as Pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church after serving faithfully 10 years. He was the former Teacher of the Brotherhood of Greater First Baptist Church, where Reverend W. E. Gibbs was the Pastor. Pastor Gibbs was active in Community involvement, including consulting with the Houston Police Department about conditions and improvements in our neighborhoods. He was a professional Salesman for Montgomery Ward Department Store and upon his retirement, he held the position of Department Manager of Major Appliances. Reverend Gibbs: Master Mason and held a 32nd Degree in the Consistory Held the 33rd Degree of the Grand Inspector General of the Supreme Council of the A.A.S.R. (Ancient Accepted Scottish rite Mason). Was Shriner of the Grand Imperial. Was President of the Baptist Inc. of Los Angeles. Served as President of District Congress Southwest Central Association of Houston. In 1964, he was Moderator of the Old Land Mark District Association of Los Angeles, President of the United Baptist Ministers Fellowship. In 1968, he became President of the Baptist Ministers Fellowship of Los Angeles and Vicinity. Served as a member of the Advisory Board of the Health Maintenance Organization of the Lutheran Hospital. Received a Certificate of completion from the Houston Police Department for successfully completing training in the HPD for the Minister’s against crime Workshop. Appointed by Harris County Sheriff Department an Honorary Deputy Sheriff in Harris County 7 also Honorary Deputy Constable of Precinct 7. Reverend Gibbs received numerous awards and certificates from independent school districts, churches, HPD, the Sheriff’s Department, Institutes and Alliances. He is now with his parents: Reverend Walter Sr. and Clara Gibbs; brothers: Ollie, Walter Jr., Reverend John D., Morris, Reverend Ernest, Reverend Eugene, Reverend Willie Sr.; two brothers who died as children and two sisters: Samanther Wilson and Jewel Hewitt. He leaves to cherish his memories: very devoted wife, Raydell Gibbs; one son: Reginald Earl Boatwright (Elmira); four grandchildren: Tiwana Boatwright, Felicia Adams, Sharonda Smith and Reginald Earl Boatwright II; devoted volunteer caretakers: niece and nephew, Barbara & Arnold Hightower; a devoted and caring doctor, Dr. Lynn Gibbs and a host of nieces and nephews.
