

On June 8, 1920, a baby boy was born to Tom and Christine Burton, Sr., whom they named Tom Jr. He was the oldest of six siblings. Tom Burton, Jr. grew up and went to school in Alief Clodine, Texas. He found Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age at Pleasant Green Baptist Church, where his mother and father were members until they passed away. Later he met and married Ruby Beatrice Flix on October 26, 1941. To this union twelve children were born, six boys and six girls; seven living and five deceased. Tom Burton, Jr. served in the Military (United States Navy) from 1943-1945. Tom Burton, Jr. joined Riceville Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend T. E. Spiller. On June 7, 1951 Tom Burton, Jr. preached his first sermon while still under the leadership of Pastor T. E. Spiller. Reverend Tom Burton, Jr. was called to Pastor Greater Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, Houston, Texas. He served there from 1954 to 1961. On December 10, 1961 he was called to Pastor Mt. Corinth Missionary Baptist in Fresno, Texas. He served as Pastor for 25 years. In 1985, he left and organized Love True Faith Baptist Church. He remained there as Pastor until 1996. That same year, May 1996, he went back to Pastor, Mt. Corinth Baptist Church and was there until he retired. In 1998, Reverend Tom Burton, Jr. joined Curry Chapel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Charles Gamble. He remained a faithful member until his health began to fail. Reverend Tom Burton, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents Deacon Tom Burton, Sr. and Mrs. Christine Burton, three brothers Samuel Burton, Joe Burton and Elmo Burton; his loving wife of 55 years Mrs. Ruby Flix Burton and one son Clarence Emmett Burton. He leaves to cherish his memories a very close and dear friend Ms. Dorothy Miller; seven children Mrs. Mary D. West (Reverend H. L. West), Wilton Clyde Burton (Mrs. Vera Burton), Ms. Ruth E. Burton Patterson White, Ms. Cynthia Beatrice Burton, Reverend Edmund Thomas Burton (Mrs. Michelle Burton), Ms. Edna Teretha Burton Watts and Ms. Carol Deborah Burton Brooks; 51 grandchildren; 98 great grandchildren; 23 great-great grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Julia Truitt and Ms. Corine McNeil; one brother Mr. Jack Burton; one daughter-in-law Debra Warren Burton and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
