Born on January 9, 1946, in Richmond, Kentucky, Richard grew up with a strong sense of duty and faith that guided him throughout his life. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served proudly as an aeronautical mechanic. His service took him to Vietnam, where he not only carried out his duties with dedication but also met the love of his life, Vien. Together they built a family and shared a lifetime of love and devotion.
Richard’s career in aviation carried him across the world—from Vietnam to the United States, to Iran, Saudi Arabia, and finally to Montgomery, Texas—yet no matter where life took him, his heart was always with his family. He was a man who found joy in building and creating, whether tinkering with cars, fixing what was broken, or simply working with his hands. His goal was to always take care of things without ever burdening anyone else and ensuring the happiness of his loved ones.
He will be remembered as a compassionate, kind-hearted, and selfless man, devoted to his wife, children, and especially his grandchildren. His humor, faith, and steadfast work ethic touched all who knew him, and his legacy of love will continue in the lives of his family.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Vien Dunaway; his children, Tracy Dunaway, Timothy Dunaway, and Teresa Dunaway; his daughter-in-law, Michelle Dunaway; and his cherished grandchildren, Tristan, Andrew, and Ethan Dunaway. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A visitation will be held on October 4, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm at Earthman Resthaven, located at 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060, USA. The funeral service will follow at the same location from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. A committal service will take place at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home and Cemetery from 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm. A reception will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Earthman Resthaven.
The pallbearers will be Tim Dunaway, Tracy Dunaway, Dylan Richey, Hammad Rahman, Bryan Denhart, and Mike Wheat. Honorary pallbearers include Tristan Dunaway, Andrew Dunaway, and Ethan Dunaway.
