Richard Waldo Eason

4 April 1933 – 20 November 2011

Born in Wetumpka, Alabama, Richard was the second son of a career musician and a teacher —Roy Eason, Sr., and Josie Alford Eason. A talented athlete and mathematician, Richard played football while attending Troy State University. He soon put his degree in Mathematics to practical use as a tactician in the U.S. Army, calculating missile trajectories alongside his brother Roy during the Korean War. Richard moved to Pasadena, Texas, with his brother and sister-in-law in the mid-1950s. A foray into the teaching profession was brief — it lasted only one year — but notable in that it provided Richard with an introduction to fellow teacher Miss Jerry Delaney. Richard and Jerry married in 1958 and by 1963 their family had expanded with the arrivals of Andrew, Alissa, and Antone.At about the time of their marriage, Richard embarked on a successful career as a residential builder and developer. He was responsible for the design and construction of neighborhoods throughout southeast Houston in the 1960s and 1970s. When Houston’s population boom ended in the 1980s, Richard first invested in a nightclub, but soon found opportunities in the transportation industry to be more rewarding. He operated a small trucking firm until his retirement in the early 2000s. Richard’s chief occupations after retirement were to scatter seed for the redbirds from his back porch and to provide care and affection to the many cats and dogs with which he and Jerry shared their home. Richard Eason passed away peacefully on the afternoon of the 20th of November and is survived by his elder son, Andrew Eason; his daughter, Alissa Eason, and her husband and daughters, Christopher Hart, Annaliese Hart Incháurregui, and Arianna Hart; and his younger son, Antone Eason, and his wife Jeanette, and daughters, Barbie and Antonea. He is also survived by his brother, Roy; his sister-in-law, Lillian; his nieces, Susan and Sandra; and his nephew, Stephen. Richard’s ashes will be scattered in a private family ceremony in the springtime.
