As a veteran of the National Guard, Richard was proud of his service to his country. He was also a lover of baseball and bowling. He played baseball as a youth and was an usher for the Houston Buffaloes in Buff Stadium in the 40’s. His bowling career extended well over 50 years first on petroleum leagues then finally on neighborhood teams. Richard was employed by the oil industry as a lease analyst for his entire career.
Richard’s quick wit, love of music, and love of a good “driveway sit” will be remembered fondly by those who knew and loved him.
Richard is survived by his children, Terri (Smitty) McKenzie, Kara (Greg) Abbott, Glenn Kelley, Kyle McManus, and daughter-in-law, Kelly McManus ; sisters-in-law, Nancy Kelley and Jo Lee, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Loa; his sons, Ken and Mark; and his parents and siblings.
A funeral service will be held at Forest Park Lawndale (Colonial Chapel) on February 16, 2026 at 10 am followed by a brief Committal service at the Abbey on the other side of Lawndale. Reception to follow at 6817 Neff, Houston, Texas.
