My Uncle Richard, was also my Godfather. When I was old enough to realize what this meant, I was happy my parents made the choice to make him my guardian if something were to happen to them. Uncle Richard was always a warm spirit, filled with youth and a sense of fun and adventure. Going bike riding around the Atlantic Ocean in CT is one of my fondest memories of him. He gave me faith that getting older didn't mean being some boring stick in the mud in a recliner. He was dedicated to fitness and activity till the very end, and I will always look up to him for that. I was planning to visit him this year, and introduce him to my husband Sean for the first time, who I am sure would enjoy him as much as I did. I am sad that this wont happen now, but know that his energy exists within our hearts for as long as they beat.

Big Rich, we will miss you very much. I always enjoyed your company at all of our family gatherings. I'm very grateful that my children were able to bond and create memories with you, just as I did as a small child and well into adulthood. I will continue to cherish those memories of the many different outings, whether it was out at the farm, on the golf course, heading to the Astros games, or just hanging out. I look forward to seeing you on the other side one day.

Big Richard - You will be greatly missed. I have fond memories of your visits back to the States after you were in Middle East, you giving Brown and Root hats to all the McCarty kids, going out to Chappell Hill to look for a farm, going out to visit your farm house and shooting BB guns, visiting with you over the holidays, enjoying your company at my childrens' baptisms, etc. Rest in peace.

Big Richard, you will be missed. You were a great role model as my Godfather. You led by example by being proud in your faith, honest, loyal, good natured, and a good friend. I will miss seeing you at family functions, playing golf with you, watching golf with you, attending Astros games, and staying up late with you at the farm having an adult beverage and just talking. You've touched a lot of lives and your spirit will live on. I will see you again. Rest in peace.

We didn't see Richard often, but when we did he made us feel like close friends. It was the quality of his friendship that lasted till the next time we saw him. See you later, Richard.
