Born on November 1st, 1954 in Taipei Taiwan, he spent time growing up there and in Sao Paulo Brazil before moving to Texas in 1973. He successfully ran China Cottage Restaurant in Westbury Square for over 10 years where he cultivated a lifelong love of cooking. Seeking a change in career, he graduated from the University of Houston with a Master's Degree in Accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant. He traveled the world as a Corporate Controller with his family throughout Southeast Asia including Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Bangkok, Thailand until returning to the US and settling in Overland Park, Kansas. Most recently he served as the CFO of his son’s neurology practice in San Antonio, Texas.
From the age of 47, he was known for his conversion to Christianity, an answer to fervent prayers from his closest friends and family. Through faith, kindness and generosity he pointed others to the hope of salvation in Jesus.
He is survived by his wife Kimberle (73), his son Andrew (41), his daughter Mindy (37), his sister Helena (72), his brother Michael (65) and his mother Kou Chia ‘Kathy’ Cheng (97). He is preceded in death by his father Jung Chia ‘Peter’ Wang in 1982.
The family would like to make special mention of Tommy Chiu and family as well as the late Lorraine Allton and family, whose prayers were central to Richard’s Christian journey.
He will be greatly missed but departs to a far greater place shared by all those who have put their faith in Christ. Because of Jesus’ victory on the cross, his family rejoices in mourning by saying “until we meet again”.
Funeral services will be performed at Earthman Resthaven at 10am on November 15th, 2024 with a graveside service at Rosewood Memorial Cemetery in Humble, Texas at 2pm.
