On a wonderful sunny day in Beaumont, TX, December 2, 1928, a bouncy and handsome son was born to Mr. Isaac and Brucy Falls Sr., whom they named Rivers James Falls. After his father's death in 1938, Rivers and the entire family moved to Houston, TX where he attended public schools. In 1945 he left Jack Yates High School because he was inducted into the United States Army to serve in World War II. During the middle of his service in 1946, he learned of his mother's death, Mrs. Brucy, and was not notified in time to attend the funeral. Upon returning home from World War II, he worked various jobs and attended Fourth Missionary Baptist Church as an usher under the leadership of the late Dr. E. Stanley Branch. He loved to dress up and meet and greet people. He enjoyed singing in the church, at home, at a juke joint or wherever he was invited. The Third Ward community knew him as the Bar B Q Man where he served many delicious dinners and sandwiches to neighbors, friends, pastors, celebrities, athletes, banks, radio stations, policemen and firemen, Channel 13, Channel 11 and Fox 26 personnel, and relatives for over twenty (20) years. He called his Bar B Q the "Come back Bar B Q" because he said his customers always come back for more. He took great pride in teaching others his secret recipe. He knew his labor was not in vain when Ray Bush, owner of Ray's Real Pit BBQ Shack located at 4529 Old Spanish Trail elected to hang an 8X10 photo in his restaurant in appreciation of him. He thought this acknowledgment was an Olympic gold medal to him. Mr. Rivers was preceded in death on July 23, 2002 by his beloved wife of forty-nine (49) years, Mrs. Mildred Derouen Falls, and sister Louise Falls Walker in 2003 and brother Isaac Conway Falls, Jr. in 2005. Mr. Rivers transitioned from this life into eternal rest on the morning of Tuesday, July 1, 2014. Left to cherish his memory is Roosevelt Falls, his baby brother. His children - Lydia Oliphant, Elizabeth Edwards (Earl), Kenneth Falls (Rose), Rivers J. Falls, Jr. (Shalanda), and Mark S. Falls (Andrea). Fifteen grandchildren survive him: Karen Falls, Tarsha Pellerin (Patrick), Andre Hayes, Eric Hayes (Viola), Jasmine Hodge, Klerianne Falls, Mark Falls II, Hannah Falls, Alicia Ferrias, Kenisha Falls, Ashley Falls, Karena Falls Wilson, and Kenneth Falls, Jr., Alexis Witson, and Mark Witson.
