Robert Lee Brownhill, M.D. passed away on December 6, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 24, 1930, in Kansas City, Kansas, Bobby and his family moved to Houston when he was a young boy. He attended and was an acolyte at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Garden Villas. It was there that he met his future bride, Annalou, at age 12. Bobby excelled at everything he did: sports, academics, medicine, life. He attended Allen Academy for the 1941-42 school year. He achieved the honor of Eagle Scout before graduating Austin High School in 1948. He was part of the Rice Institute Class of 1952 but left after 3 years upon his acceptance to Baylor College of Medicine where he graduated in 1955. After graduating from Baylor, he completed his residency program that included 18 months at Children's Hospital Boston where they created the position of Chief Resident for him. Bobby married his lifelong love, Annalou, in 1951, and they were blessed with four children: Robbi, Scott, Chaille and Cara. Bobby's orthopedic career included years as Chief of Orthopedics at the VA Hospital-Houston and the Shriners Hospital for Children, as well as private practice at Methodist and Memorial Southwest hospitals and in Bay City, Texas. He retired from practice in 2009. Bobby's leisure time primarily was spent with his family and friends on Galveston Bay aboard his beloved 1956 Chris-Craft, Bobalou. He was loved by all and truly will be missed. Bobby is preceded in death by his father, Earl, his mother, Violet, and his brother, Jim. He is survived by his loving family that includes 9 grandchildren of whom he was immensely proud: wife, Annalou; daughter, Robbi Hull, Rick Hull, and granddaughters Ashlee and Heather; son, Scott Brownhill, his wife Chris, and grandchildren Scott, Jacy, and James; daughter Chaille Turner, her husband Chris, and grandson Sean; daughter, Cara Applewhite, her husband Jeff, and granddaughters Hayley, Lauren and Rachel.
The family would like to thank the loving staff members from Memorial Hermann Home Health who helped care for Bobby these past few months.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Bobby's memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Attn: Donor Development, 6977 Main Street, Houston, TX, 77030.
