

He grew up in the Heights on Nicholson St. He had a Post newspaper route during his younger years. He attended Love Elementary, Hamilton Jr High and John H Reagan High.
While attending Reagan he met the love of his life, Marie Crutcher. They married March 26, 1952 enjoying over 66 years of marriage until Marie’s passing in 2018. He passed 3 days after what would have been their 70th wedding anniversary. Since Marie’s passing he carried her wedding band on his key ring so she was always with him.
Robert served in the Army 1953-1955. He was stationed at Fort Hood most of his enlistment. In 1949 he started his career with Texas New Orleans as a mechanic. Robert serviced steam, diesel, and electronic locomotives retiring in 1994 from Southern Pacific.
Robert had a lifelong love of Ray Conniff’s Orchestra and Singers music. Throughout the years he acquired an extensive collection of albums and CD's
He supported his daughters Girl Scout adventures being the equipment hauler. Robert assisted with treehouse building and Boy Scout events with his sons.
Robert and Marie spent their retirement years taking care of family, volunteering, camping with friends and family, and cruising the Mississippi River & the Caribbean. According to him; nothing beat sitting on the deck of an American Cruise Line paddle wheeler eating ice cream watching the Mississippi river flow by.
For many years, the Parkway Civic Club’s National Night Out gathering was held in the Coleman’s front yard. Many a hamburger and hot dog was grilled by Robert on these occasions.
Robert served as deacon at Glenn Rose and Cornerstone Baptist churches. He was a member of Remnant Church at the time of his passing.
Robert warmly welcomed his sons in “love” into the family. He was always ready to offer his assistance/advice with any home repair. He was head over heels in love with being Paw Paw to his Pollywog (Traci) and even more in love when Samuel was born in 2011.
We will always cherish the many years spent at Landa Park RV Camp ground floating the Comal, grilling, enjoying a Luling watermelon and playing games.
He is survived by children, Deborah Williams (Gary) of Bellaire, Janet DeFoor (Dale) of Dickinson, Douglas & Jeffrey of Houston. Granddaughter Traci DeFoor Wallach (Michael) and great grandson Samuel of Dickinson. Other survivors include sister-in-law Carolyn Gentry, and numerous nieces and nephew.
A visitation for Robert will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. A committal service will occur Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060.
