Robert Joseph Demny, 84, passed away on March 29, 2026. He was born on June 21, 1941, and was a beloved, cherished, devoted, generous, hard-working, honest, humorous, inspirational, kind-hearted, selfless, and wise man who made a lasting difference in the lives of those who knew him. Robert was a resident of Houston, Texas. After this introduction, he will be remembered fondly as Robert.
Robert grew up in Cashmere Gardens in Houston and attended Jefferson Davis High School, where the roots of his steady character and lifelong friendships began to take shape.
Robert shared 63 years of marriage with his wife, Shirley, building a life grounded in devotion and family. He was a proud and loving father to his sons, Randall and David, and his children loved him deeply—an enduring testament to the kind of father he was. He took deep joy in his family. His grandchildren—Brittany Marion, Ryan Demny, Rylie Baggett, and Jonathan Demny—were a cherished part of his life, as were his great-grandchildren: Reagan Demny, Joey Marion, Lillian Demny, and William Robert Baggett.
A true ultimate handyman and master of repurposing, Robert had a gift for seeing possibility where others saw the ordinary. He enjoyed travel, deer hunting, tinkering, card games, and Jeep trails—pursuits that reflected both his adventurous spirit and his practical, capable nature.
Robert also gave his time to Little League baseball, offering his support and presence in a way that reflected his generous and community-minded heart.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude for John Gorney, Robert’s best friend and brother-in-law, whose steadfast companionship meant so much throughout Robert’s life.
Robert’s humor and plainspoken wisdom were part of what made him so memorable. Among the words that captured his outlook best was this: “Wish in one hand ‘blank’ in the other and see which fills up first.” In that spirit—direct, wry, and honest—Robert leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the quiet strength of a life well lived.
