Robert (Bob) James Duvall passed away on Monday July 6, 2026 at the age of 81 in Houston, Texas. Bob was born on February 20, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in the suburb of Park Ridge with his parents, Roy and Evelyn, his older sister Carolyn, and his younger sister Suzanne (Sue). In the summer of 1959, the family moved to Northern California where he went to Saint Francis High School in Mountain View. After graduation, the family moved to Southern California where he attended Cal State Northridge.
He married Ingrid Marsh in 1966 and they had two children: a daughter Kirsten, born in 1967, and a son Robert (Rocky), born in 1968. They moved from Los Angeles to the Bay Area in 1970 where he enjoyed horse racing and shared his passion for music with his children. He also coached youth soccer and little league baseball and became an avid San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan. His marriage ended in 1981, and soon after he found sobriety – which he maintained until his passing.
Also in 1981, he began his career in IT with the US Postal Service where he worked for 30 years until his retirement in 2011. In 1986, he married Coralynn (Cora) Medefesser and they had one child: a son Andrew (Andy), born in 1987. They moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1990 where he lived for over 35 years. In Raleigh he enjoyed taking care of the family’s Miniature Schnauzers, watching soccer and playing fantasy football, listening to oldies music and making CDs for family and friends, and going shopping - the staff at The Gap in Crabtree Valley Mall at one point all knew him by name. He moved to Houston in 2025 to be closer to family, but Raleigh was his home. He was a wonderful Dad and will always be loved.
He is remembered by his wife Cora, who lives in Houston and celebrated their 40th anniversary together just a few months before his passing. He is also remembered by his sister Sue and Ronald (Ron) Clouse in Moorpark, California; his daughter Kirsten Duvall in Lisbon, Portugal; his son Rocky and Doreen (Dorie) Duvall in Sacramento, California; his son Andy and Cassandra Duvall in Houston, Texas; his stepdaughter Elizabeth (Liz) Medefesser in Burlington, North Carolina; his grandchildren Maiya, Aiedan, Oliver and Genevieve Duvall; his nephews Tom and Chris Gebhart and James (Jim) and Ryan Clouse; and a host of other family members and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on August 21, 2026, at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road, Houston, Texas 77055.
