

Robert H. “Bob” Nellis, Jr. was born in Wichita, Kansas on Sunday, July 6, 1941, to parents Robert Hadley Nellis, Sr. and Ruby Faye (Shick) Nellis. Surrounded by his loving family, Bob passed away in Houston Texas on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the age of 74.
Bob attended Drake University where he was a member of the Air Force ROTC, and was highly involved in many of the Audio Visual activities around the campus. Upon graduation, he went to work with his father-in-law at Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel Co. After a while he joined the insurance industry as a computer programmer. After several moves he settled in Houston where he joined American General (now AIG) in 1988 and remained until his retirement. Bob enjoyed traveling, was an avid golfer and loved Dominos, Bridge and Bowling.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sandra “Sandy” Nellis of Houston; son, Robert III of Houston; daughters, Colleen Grable and husband Jim of Culpeper, Virginia and Mel Haynie and husband Blair of Houston. He is also survived by his adored grandchildren, Alexander “Lex” Nellis and Sgt. Benjamin “Ben” Whitten US Army; great grandson, Joseph Tyler Nellis; brothers, Garold Nellis and wife Kay of Lake Zurich, Illinois, Randy Nellis and wife Pam of Maple Grove, Minnesota; nephews, Garold Nellis, Sr. and wife Carla, Cliff Nellis and wife Venessa, Kelli Nellis, Daniel Nellis; brothers –in-law, Steven Duff and wife Cheryl, Joe Duff and wife Christy.
Beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 4th, family and friends will come together to share memories and honor this wonderful man’s life until 10:00 a.m., when Pastor Carter Sanger will conduct a memorial service in the chapel of Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston.
