

After graduating high school at Cy Fair High, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1954-1956. He would go on to marry his wife Victoria in 1957 and begin a beautiful blended family in Houston, TX. Throughout his life, he was an active member of numerous organizations until his death. These included Knights of Columbus, St. Rose of Lima Men's Club and Food Pantry, Korean War Club, and Railroad Club to name a few. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and community member always looking for a way to serve others.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Victoria Rivera; son, Robert Canales; parents, Melecio and Seferina Rivera; brother, Cruz Rivera. He is survived by his children Veronica Guzman and husband Tony, Esther Branda and husband Michael, and Alice Canales. He was blessed with six grandchildren; John Garcia, Nicole Ford and husband Mark, Victoria Saldivar, Kristian Saldivar and wife Kendra, Jackie Guzman, and Kathryn Guzman and three great-grandchildren; Ava Garcia, Benjamin Spain , Violet Saldivar, and Antonio Gonzalez.
Visitation will be held at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd, Houston, TX 77008, on June 8, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Rosary Service at the same location that evening from 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3600 Brinkman St, Houston, TX 77018, on June 9, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm.
A Committal Service will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023, on June 9, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
