Born on March 19, 1930, in Bryan, Texas, Rojelia Canales was raised with the values that would shape her long and meaningful life. Over the years, she cultivated a life centered on love, faith, and connection.
Rojelia was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest C. Mylonas; her parents; and all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Christina Mylonas and Anna Sanctorum. Her memory is also cherished by numerous nieces and nephews.
Affectionately known as "Woody," Rojelia brought joy to those around her through her vibrant spirit and love of exploration. She was an avid traveler who delighted in discovering new places and cultures. Along with her sister Sarah, she was a long-time volunteer with the Houston Public Library. The two sisters also participated in many activities and programs at La Casita, behind Guadalupe Church and later at the Third Age Learning Center at All Saints Catholic Church. Woody and her husband, Gus, were also long-term members of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church where they would volunteer annually at the Greek Festival. Whether journeying across the country or abroad, volunteering or participating in group activities, she embraced each experience with enthusiasm. She found happiness in holding neighborhood garage sales and attending her daughters' school events.
Visitation will take place on July 7, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd., Houston, TX 77008. A funeral service will follow on July 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the same location. A reception gathering will be held immediately after the service and before internment. Burial will take place on July 8, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home Garden of Memories, 1101 Antoine Dr., Houston, TX 77055.
