Ron was born to Cecil Lemon and Emily Lee Tolliver on July 9, 1943, in Covina, CA. When he was eight, the family moved to Houston, Texas for work and to be near family.
After high school graduation, Ron began his lifelong career in banking, becoming a bank president by his early 30’s. He was president of banks in Pasadena, Houston, and Dickinson. After retiring in 2002, Ron moved to Crosby, TX to provide care for his mother and stepfather, Richard “Pop” Armstrong, and assist them in operating their grass farm. There he raised his two beloved Golden Retrievers, Emma and Annie, who provided him with entertainment and companionship.
Ron was a member of the Air Force Reserve, receiving the Airman of the Year award, and was active in civic and community affairs. He was a Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow. As a member of Second Baptist Church for over 40 years, he served as a deacon, Bible teacher, mentor, and in many other positions of service. He was a founding member of Trinity Church in League City, TX with his close friends, Pastor Cliff and Jeani Poe, and also served with them in conducting the Road Adventure-Houston, Dimensional Journey, and Life Enrichment Boot Camps. He loved to travel and enjoyed golfing, hunting, photography and watching his Houston Astros.
In 2019 Ron moved to the Forum in the Woodlands. He participated in the community activities there and was an officer of the residents’ council. True to form, he made many friends and was a witness to all, sharing his faith in Jesus Christ and his assurance of a home in Heaven.
Ron is preceded in death by his father, Cecil Lemon, and his mother and stepfather, Emily and Richard Armstrong.
He is survived by his “chosen family”, Jeani and Cliff Poe of The Woodlands, and Karen and Joe Allen of Bryan and their families. Several cousins also survive, including Sylvia Spradling of Pasadena with whom he was close from childhood.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, February 25, 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway, Houston, TX 77057.
