Ronald “Ronnie or Ron” E’Von Metting Sr. of Houston, TX, passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 80, on June 12, 2026. He was born in Houston, TX on August 30, 1945, to “Chuck” and Syble Mae Metting. Sister Sharon came shortly after, and they lived a picturesque childhood as Ron played baseball and Sharon cheered.
Ronnie graduated from Jones High School in 1963 and, after serving in Vietnam as a combat medic, received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Sam Houston State University in 1974. He married the love of his life, Benita Yvonne Brown on June 27, 1969, and experienced wedded bliss for nearly 57 years. Ron and Benita went on to have three daughters and one son who blessed them with three sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, and 16 grandkids. Ron was the proud owner of Kwik Kopy #2 in Downtown Houston for almost 30 years where he faithfully provided for his family. Early on, he introduced his children to the musical stylings of Motown and loved to dance with them and his bride in the living room of their home on Glenway Drive. Affectionately known as “The Glenway Hilton”, their home since 1978 was a safe haven for many family members and friends over the years. An active member at Lakewood Methodist Church and then Metropolitan Baptist Church, Ron enjoyed teaching Sunday School and being a part of the Men’s Ministry. He spent a small part of his time golfing, but his true hobby was spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, coaching and watching sports, playing in the pool, or cheering them on in their many activities. He became a father to many, as he offered a listening ear and wisdom to all who crossed the threshold of his home. His greatest legacy will be his relationship with Jesus Christ and the witness he gave to everyone he encountered. He shined the light of Jesus and taught others to always put God first in their lives. He was a prayer warrior for his family and friends and always pointed you to the truth of God’s word. He was strong, brave, smart, detail oriented, gracious, merciful, compassionate, understanding, wise, loving, and caring. He was a true embodiment of a man after God’s own heart. He will be missed by multitudes.
Ron is survived by his wife, Benita; his children, Melissa Montgomery and husband Jonathan of Gallatin, TN and sons, Dawson, Colin, Landon, Kaiden, Weston, and Benton; Adrienne Exum and husband Jason of Cypress, TX and children Jackson, Allison, Elizabeth, and Jude; Meredith Sauer and husband Ryan of Rosenberg, TX and daughters Madalyn, Merian, and Meaghan; son Ronald Metting Jr. and wife Mallory of Cypress, TX and children Anna, Charlie, and Caroline; sister Sharon Renfro and countless cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents E. J. and Syble Metting, his uncle and aunt Donald and Dorothy Metting, and his brother-in-law Barry Renfro.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 29, at Forest Park Lawndale with a graveside service following at 12:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served afterward.
