

Florine was born June 29, 1919 in Akron, Ohio to Thomas and Rose Raborn. The family moved to Texas where she spent the rest of her life. She was the oldest of six children and graduated from Sam Houston High School where she was a member of the “Black Battalion” precision drill squad. She married Reuben Bauer Kihn on February 3, 1940 and was married for 63 years. Flo worked for Houston libraries as well as held various volunteer positions at Catholic Daughters, Immaculate Conception Church, including president of the Mothers’ Club and librarian, and at St. Bernadette Church where she co-founded with Reuben the Carmeliters, a club for seniors.
Florine is survived by her children, Cathryn Schiesser, Thomas Kihn, and LaNell Corley. Cathryn’s family includes Nicole Ridgway and Adam Skidmore; Rachel Schiesser, Carlos Montoya, and daughter Eva; and Steven and Samantha Schiesser and daughter Skylar. LaNell and Jimmie Corley’s family includes John Reuben and Devon Corley and daughter Juliana Rose. Also surviving Flo is her brother, Henry (Chick) Raborn and wife Garvis.
Florine was preceded in death by her husband Reuben Kihn in 2003 and her son-in-law Emil Schiesser in 2016. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Thomas and Rosa Raborn; sister, Dorothy Ventre Reed; brothers, Joseph, Edward, and Douglas Raborn; sisters-in-law, Wilma and Lee Raborn, nephew, Donald Raborn, and niece, Dinah DeVillier.
Visitation will be Monday at 12:30 P.M. with service and interment following at Forest Park Lawndale. Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Kihn, Jimmie Corley, John Corley, and Carlos Montoya.
