Rose Canales Medina passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2019 after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Rose was born to Hercules and Anita Canales on July 29, 1932 in San Marcos, Texas. She grew up in Bryan/College Station and moved to Houston’s 2nd Ward on Delano street in 1947 where she met and eventually married Jesse Felix Medina in 1951 at our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Together, they raised six children in Houston’s East End.

In addition to being a wife and mother, Rose enjoyed a successful career with the Sweeney’s Corporation, where she moved up the ranks in retail management. She was always proud of the fact that she was promoted quickly because she was bilingual. After she retired from Sweeney’s, Rose joined Macy’s fine jewelry. She loved having a career and had a strong work ethic but when finally retired, Rose enjoyed life with her husband and her biggest joy, her grandchildren.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband (married 64 years), her sons Felix and Edward Medina, and her daughter Olivia Medina Guerra. She was also preceded in death by brothers Ramon, Ralph, Robert and Roger and sisters Rebecca, Rachel and Rosie.

She is survived by her son Roy Medina, her daughter Margaret Medina and her daughter Gloria Medina Zenteno and her husband Javier as well as her sisters Rosaura (Sarah) Ramirez and Rojelia (Woody) Mylonas.

Rose was blessed to have seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.

Sending love and light to all who loved Rose. I was deeply touched when Gloria reached out to tell me that that Rose truly loved her "Memory Love Baby" - an initiative I'm beginning after reading about a similar program in Kentucky where Alzheimers patients were shown to desire comfort and joy from these dolls.

This was the first facility we delivered to and we hope to do it again around the first of the year. If you'd like to be involved, in honor of Gloria, please join our FB group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/MemoryCareBabies/ and you can also donate a doll via our Amazon Wish list at https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2CY2Q6VO5Z68?ref_=wl_share.

With blessings,
Jodie

I remember as a teenager practically living at Gulfgate mall and seeing Rose at the jewelry store all the time. Occasionally we would go to Piccadilly and eat lunch together. She was always so funny and full of life. A life well lived with a big loving family. Love to Gloria and Javi, Roy and Margaret

I remember many days watching, from across the street, Mrs. Medina sitting in the swing and enjoying just being outside. I would also see her out sweeping the sidewalk. I didn't know her yet I feel like we lost an angel. Love to Gloria & Javier.
