Rosita (Rose) Strohmann passed away January 3, 2019 at home, after a short illness. She was born on June 4, 1922 in New York City, to Michael and Christina Colasurdo. She graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University, NY with a BSN in Nursing Education in 1952, obtained her Masters in Health Education/Administration from the University of Houston in 1969 and earned a PhD in Public Health/Nursing Education from the University of Texas in 1975. She married Harold A Strohmann on October 13, 1944. Rose is survived by three children, Steve Strohmann, Harold Strohmann and Christina Von Toussaint, fifteen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, her daughter Stephanie Reyes, grandchild Michael Reyes, and great grandchild Alex Reyes, her sisters Margaret, Louise and brother Ray. She also leaves several nieces and nephews behind. Starting at a time when women typically stayed at home and raised their children, Rose carved a career in nursing and teaching that was impressive for anyone. She worked as a nurse for the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Director of Nurses for Harris County Hospital District, Nursing Administrator for Jeff Davis Hospital, for the City of Houston Health Department as a Public Health Nurse, as a Nursing Instructor for San Jacinto College of Nursing, and at Prairie View A&M College - Houston Campus and Houston Community College, was a Nurse Intern Coordinator for St. Joseph's Hospital, and Director of Nursing Education for Health Education Resources, Inc. (HER-I). She published and taught The Strohmann Method for Passing the NCLEX while with HER-I. In addition to working, Rose and her husband loved to travel. Their favorite type of vacation was a cruise, and had cruised locations such as China, the Mediterranean, the Panama Canal, and throughout the Caribbean. Additionally, they travelled throughout the US in their travel trailer, with their most frequent stop being Las Vegas. Rose was a member of St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church in League City for almost 20 years. She served as a Eucharist Minister for several years with the church. She also volunteered extensively at charity organizations, and various hospitals in the League City area. Open visitation for Rose will be Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX. There will be a rosary at St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church 1612 E. Walker Street, League City, TX on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 7:00 pm, and the funeral will be held at St. Mary's at 10:30 am January 11, 2019. In lieu of Flowers, the family requests you consider a donation to the Dr. Rose C Strohmann Scholarship Fund for nursing students enrolled at San Jacinto College South.
