March 9, 1921 – January 6, 2019
Laura Ruth Coleman-Massey was born March 9, 1921 and passed away on January 6, 2019. She was the daughter and 10th child of Crawford Thomas Coleman and Lula Norris Coleman. She was the 5th girl in a line of 12 children! She was born in the little community of New London, just outside of Strong, Arkansas. She is preceded by both her children, Carolyn Ruth Haire and Bobby Lee Haire. She is survived by two beautiful and loving granddaughters, Tonya Goings and Trina Haire; one sister, Mrs. Earlene Arnold of Des Allemands, La., many many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Ruth, as she was known by most, began her career in Houston as a hostess at the famous Shamrock Hotel, around 1947. Soon thereafter she was a PBX operator for Kelley Manufacture Co. for many years. Of course, both of these businesses are long gone. Then for many years was a receptionist for several lawyers before retiring. She was the life of the party and went dancing with friends even in her 90s. She was a lover of animals, especially horses and dogs. She was never without a doggie, her last being "Precious" who has found a new home at Trina's with many new "4 legged cousins"!
Ruth was always dressed in the latest styles, high heels, sometimes hats, and never without her nails or hair being perfect! Ruth was a gourmet cook and quite often redecorated her home, moving furniture around with no help. She also was not known for her driving ability, however she continued driving and taking care of herself with great pride even into her later years. We, all know how independent she was, and she worked for everything she had. She would say, “I can do it. I did it myself.”
Ruth was an amazing, smart, strong, and independent woman and will always be loved and remembered by her family and friends.

I always enjoyed being around you Mrs Ruth You we're a barrel of laughs and then some. Precious will be fine but she will miss her mama and time will help her as she has new cousins to keep her busy. I love you Mrs Ruth and we will meet again at the Pearly Gates of Heaven. God Bless You...
