Sabino Gamez was born to Adelaido J Gamez and Gertrudis Verá Gamez, August 23, 1951, in Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He graduated from Milby High School in 1971 and then enlisted in the US Army. He became a Sargent and Airborne Ranger while in the military. After leaving the Army he received a Criminal Justice Degree from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in 1979. He married Erlinda Gamez in 1974, they lived together in Houston, TX. They had a daughter, Zabrina, in 1982. They ended their marriage in 1992. He married Claudia Marcela Barragan Gamez on September 13th, 1993, and they lived together in Houston, Texas. Together they raised 4 children, Michael, Gabriela, Monica, and Rebeca.
He is survived by: Claudia Marcela Gamez, wife of 27 years. He also leaves his 5 children and 6 grandchildren: Marcuez, Izaak, Christian, Michael Jr., Penelope, and baby Barragan to cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his father, Adelaido J. Gamez.
Sabino led a life of service. He started his civil service work as a Parole Officer in Odessa, TX. He joined the Houston Police Department on June 28, 1982, Academy Class #106. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to Southeast, Eastside, Polygraph, Burglary and Theft, Traffic and Accident, Traffic Enforcement, and Vehicular Crime Division. Senior Police Officer Sabino Gamez served the Houston Police Department for 28 years before retiring on September 4, 2010. He continued on to establish White Eagle Inc. where he was a hazardous material owner operator and trucked for 14 years. He enjoyed being around his family, attending church, carpentry, napping with his grandchildren and tending to his plants. He was also actively involved in Blue Santa and donating time at Shriners Hospital.
The Viewing will be held March 2nd at Forest Park Funeral Home from 5-9PM. His memorial mass is scheduled for March 3rd, 11AM at St. Philip of Jesus Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Houston National at 1:45PM. The family requests that donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children/ donate.lovetotherescue.org.
