

Born April 13, 1941 to Louis and Esther Horchem, of Ransom, Kansas, Sandy was the eldest daughter of three children. She grew up a Kansas farm girl, where she developed a strong work ethic, the ability to overcome hardships, and a kind and generous heart. She married her husband Truett Day Allen, Jr, on May 3, 1969, in Houston, Texas. They were the proud parents of three children, Janet Lou Allen Roush, Truett Day Allen, III, and Kristin Leigh Allen.
Sandy was a wonderful mother first, as well as a bacteriologist, and primary school teacher. Her selfless character and love for education is evident by the generations of children she impacted at Ed White Elementary School. She led a devout life, and had great focus on faith and living as an example to others.
An avid outdoorswoman, Sandy had a great love for nature, for fishing, for gardening, and for enjoying time with her family. Her strength, faith, and fierce will to live helped her overcome cancer and many health obstacles in her life. She was happiest when with family, and her love for her children, grandchildren, and extended family was great.
Sandy is preceded in death by her parents Louis and Esther Horchem, her sister Janet Lou Wideman, her brother Gerald Horchem. and her husband Truett Allen, Jr. She leaves behind her children Janet Allen Roush and husband Steven Held, son Truett Allen,III and his wife Julie Allen, and daughter Kristin Allen, eight loving grandchildren Kallie, Zachary, Ella, Ford, Kaitlin, Savannah, Sierra and Shane, brothers and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
A celebration of her life and funeral service will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Pat H. Foley and Co. at 1200 W. 34th Street, followed by a graveside service at 2:30pm at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-8:00 pm at Pat H. Foley and Co. on Tuesday, February 28, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
