Sandra Kay Luna

Sandra (Sandy) Kay McPherson Luna entered eternal life on August 29, 2026 at the age of 79 surrounded by her family and fortified by the sacraments of the Church. She is at peace and has been welcomed into the kingdom of heaven. Alleluia.

Sandy was born on April 4, 1947 to J.O. McPherson, Jr. and Patricia McPherson in Laurel, Mississippi. She was in the first graduating class of Sam Rayburn High School in 1965. She also attended Wharton Jr. College.

She was a founding member of Mary Queen Catholic Church in Friendswood, Texas where she raised her daughters. Her faith and steadfast love of Jesus was admired by all. Our beloved Sandy/Mom/Mammaw/Aunt Sandy always saw the world through rose colored glasses, and never had a negative word to say about anyone. Every single person she encountered felt special in her presence and they were touched by her generosity and love.

Sandy’s parents instilled in her that the way to be rich in life is to put family first. She and her sister Tricia had an unbreakable bond which was shared with their Pontius cousins and their cousin/little brother Rogers Simmons.

She had a love for water whether it was a swimming pool, beach, lake or the river. Most people don’t know that she was an avid surfer. She enjoyed golfing at Sunmeadow Country Club making lifelong friends. The Sunmeadow ladies played bridge together until they were no longer able to drive to meet up with each other. She loved her Houston Sports (Oilers, Texans, Astros, and Rockets) attending many games and tailgating.

Sandy’s role as a mother to her daughters was always her priority. She lost her mother at 16 years old, and she made being a loving mother her most important role. She was able to be a stay at home Mom driving her girls to all of their activities until eventually she went back to work at Clear Lake Hospital. She also worked at Matthews, Matson and Kelly, Beverly Hills Junior High, and Luna Brothers Construction until retiring. Of all her hobbies, ironing was the thing she most loved to do to relax as she stood at the ironing board watching television and ironing clothes, sheets, and anything that should not be wrinkled. Her daughters got in trouble if they didn’t have a crease in their pants or had wrinkles in their clothes, even in their t-shirts.

Sandy met Raymond Luna, the love of her life, in 1990. Although they met later in life, Sandy and Ray shared many of the same Mount Carmel memories. It was as if they had known each other their whole lives. They were married October 26, 1990. They were a perfect match creating a beautiful, blended family with their 8 daughters: Stacy Patek (Charles), Shannon Lay (Tod), Stephanie Satterfield, Susy Parker (Michael), Coco Lufsey (Billy), Nicole San Felipe (the late Larry San Felipe), Danielle Cantu (Stephen), and Tara Ingram (Cole), 24 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

Sandy and Ray created many traditions together with their family including their annual river trip to New Braunfels with the Madden cousins (65 people were at the last one), hosted the best holiday get-togethers and family celebrations. They were always on the go being Houston Texans PSL season ticket holders and avid tailgaters. Until she became sick, Sandy had only missed one game since the Texans had their first games in 2002. They have attended World Series games, numerous football and baseball play-off games, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo BBQ cook offs, were members of bowling leagues, and loved to travel with their children and grandchildren as they lived the most fulfilling lives sharing everything together. They prioritized Sunday Mass together, and made sure to pray together before every meal, leading by example.

They never met a stranger becoming friends with anyone who crossed their paths. Continuing to prioritize family, they also became close with their children’s in-laws and friends. They were loved and adored by everyone, took in any family needing a home, and were always there to provide help to anyone in time of need.

Sandy is preceded in death by her parents, Pontius and McPherson grandparents, several of her adored Pontius and McPherson aunts, uncle, cousins, and her son-in-law Larry San Felipe.

We have lost our angel on earth, but we know heaven is rejoicing welcoming Sandy with open arms. She will always be our guardian angel.

Her favorite flower was a white daisy. Feel free to wear something with a daisy or a pop of yellow in her honor at the funeral.

Graveside services immediately following the reception will be private.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Pursuit Center in honor of Sandra Luna and in memory of former resident, cousin Bernice Madeline (Peggy) Pontius. Sandy and her cousins were long-time volunteers of the Center and the Gingersnaps program.
