

Santiago "Jimmy" Garza, born July 25, 1916 to Nicolas and Aurora Garza in Rio Grande City, Texas, passed away June 21, 2012 in Houston, Texas. Mr. Garza was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Olivia Garza. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Cortez and husband, Richard; granddaughters, Kimberly Cortez and husband, John Rittman, and Angela Shawn and husband, Jerry; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Miranda, and Clarissa Shawn, and Olivia Rittman; nephew, Darrell Pena; niece, Linda Ramirez, and by other family and friends.
Mr. Garza served his country proudly in the Army during World War II. Santiago was a head chef for many years, working for the former Shamrock Hilton Hotel in Houston, and then for the Plaza Club in Houston before retiring.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012 in the Chapel of Heights Funeral Home, where a vigil service and rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2012 at Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1701 San Jacinto Street, Houston, Texas 77002. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Garden of Memories, Houston, Texas.
