February 20, 1948 – September 15, 2026
Santos Gonzales was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, and friend whose presence brought love, laughter, music, and unforgettable memories to the lives of everyone who knew him.
Born on February 20, 1948, to Cecilio Gonzales and Jesusa Garcia (Preceded him in death). He had 13 brothers and sisters. Santos dedicated his life to his family and to the people he loved. On February 1, 1969, he married the love of his life, Julie Gonzales, beginning a 57 year marriage filled with love, devotion, and a lifetime of memories.
Santos proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean/Vietnam War era, carrying with him the strength, determination, and sense of responsibility that would remain a part of who he was throughout his life.
Together, Santos and Julie built a beautiful family. He was a loving father and father-in-law to Hope Noyola (Ricardo Noyola), Jesus Santos Gonzales, Sr. (Elizabeth Gonzales) and John-Paul Gonzales. His family continued to grow, and he became a proud grandfather to Alyssa Ramirez (Leonardo Ramirez, Jr.), Adrianna Santamand (Richard Santamand), Jesus Santos Gonzales, Jr. (Daisy Gonzales), Joseph Gonzales, Jasper Gonzales, Julianna Noyola, and Anissa Gonzales (who preceded him in death.)
But perhaps his greatest joy came from being a Great-Grandpa. His great-grandchildren were his entire world: Julian Ramirez, Alexia Santamand, Emily Ramirez, Danielle Santamand, Jesus Santos Gonzales III, Isabella Ramirez, Leilani Gonzales, and Brianna Ramirez. He treasured every moment with his “Greats,” and the love he shared with them will remain a part of their lives forever.
Santos had a way of leaving a little piece of himself in everyone around him. Music was one of the greatest loves he shared with his family. He had a passion for oldies and old-school Tejano music, and he especially enjoyed the simple pleasure of playing his records for his family. He loved putting a record on, listening to the music he grew up with, and sharing those songs with the people he loved. Through those records, he passed down more than music; he passed down memories, traditions, and a piece of himself that will continue through the generations.
For Santos, cooking was a love language. He showed his family how much he cared by feeding them, gathering everyone together, and making sure no one left his home hungry. The meals he prepared were more than food—they were expressions of love, family, and togetherness.
Santos was, in every sense of the word, one of a kind. He could be stubborn. He could be grumpy. And he certainly wasn't afraid to let you know exactly what he thought. But he was our stubborn, grumpy old man, and we wouldn't have changed him for the world. Beneath that grumpy exterior was a man who loved his family deeply and fought with everything he had to stay with us for as long as he could.
He was surrounded by a family who loved him completely, and his life was a testament to the importance of family, tradition, music, food, and simply being together.
Santos leaves behind a family who will carry his memory in countless ways—in the music they listen to, the records they play, the recipes they make, the stories they tell, and the love they pass down to the generations he cherished so dearly.
His passing leaves a void in our hearts that can never be replaced. Although our hearts are broken, we are grateful for every year, every meal, every song, every record played, every laugh, every stubborn moment, and every precious memory he gave us.
You fought to stay with us as long as you could.
You loved us in your own unforgettable way.
You gave us memories that will last a lifetime.
And you left behind a love that death can never take away.
You will forever be our husband, our Dad, our Grandpa, our PeePa, and our grumpy old man.
Until we meet again, we love you forever.
