A TIME TO BE BORN On July 12, 1957 in Houston, Texas, God blessed Rev. Charles and Geraldine Bowers with a beautiful baby girl whom they named Sharon Gale Bowers. She was baptized at Hill Zion Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Yale Street Baptist Church. In 1981, Sharon was united in marriage with Ricket L. Dykes. A TIME FOR EDUCATION Sharon was a product of the Houston Independent School District. P. Holden, Allen & John F. Kennedy were the elementary schools she attended. Then she became an Eagle at the world famous Booker T. Washington Senior High School. In her endeavors to learn she participated in the "Baby Ocean of Soul" band under the direction of the late "Pop" Bigsby, which also taught her how to play spades and do what she loved most of all, "Dance!" After those fun-filled years she enrolled at Prairie View A&M University. A TIME TO WORK Sharon was a dedicated worker and learned at an early age how hard work would eventually pay off. She started working with her father in the family business, "Bowers Utility Service," then sought employment and was hired at MD Anderson. While at this company for 18 years, she met life-long friends and continued these loving relationships. Atlanta Life Insurance Company and Jessie Jackson Academy were also employers. She then became "The Best Baby Sitter Ever." A TIME FOR CHURCH Sharon accepted Christ early in life. Her desire to get closer to God aided greatly in the development of her God-given talents. She was a loyal soprano, faithful choir member and dutiful "Inspirational and Sanctuary" Choir President. Sharon's love for the youth was displayed by serving as "Head Matron" and Youth Choir Director. Her dedication for Christian education was evident when called to carry out the duties of the Director of Vacation Bible School and teacher. On any given Sunday, you could find the vibrant Sharon worshipping and praising her God. Sharon departed this life on Thursday afternoon, January 17, 2012 at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Sharon was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Charles Bowers; brother, Kermit Bowers and sister, Charlene Bowers. She leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Geraldine Mills; daughter, Lakeisha Castille (Cliff); son, Chris Dykes; granddaughter, Chloe Castille; aunts, Ruby Shaw, Katie Delaney (Robert), Adell Adams, Bernice Ray, Bessie Adams, Mary Lee Brooks, Visteria McLaughlin, Erma Lee Whitaker and Ruthie Jean Harrell; uncles, Ben Adams Jr., Bernard Adams (Linda), Willie Adams Sr. (Arneatha), Jessie Adams (Rita) and Vernon Bowers and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
