Sharon Brewer Staehli lived a very full life. She was born on November 23, 1939, in Houston, Texas. She grew up in Houston where she attended Spring Branch High School. Sharon went on to get her teaching degree from the University of Houston and she returned to Spring Branch High School as an English teacher. She finished her teaching career at Katy High School where she retired in May 2002. One of her greatest accomplishments was receiving her Master’s Degree in English from Texas A&M University. She was also very proud to be awarded the National Endowment of Humanities Fellowship for a seminar at A&M.
Shortly after college she married Frank Brewer, the father of Lisa and Courtney, and they were married for over 25 years.
Sharon met Ralph Staehli on a Caribbean cruise shortly after her retirement. They married and settled in Ralph’s hometown of Vashon, Washington. They were happily married for 11 years. Both Sharon and Ralph had a passion for travel. Together they visited many amazing destinations including Alaska, Europe, Russia, South America, Costa Rica, and Norway. When Ralph passed away in December of 2014, Sharon moved back to Houston to be with her family.
Sharon adored her two granddaughters, Jordan and McKenna. They were the light of her life. Very early on she decided she wanted to be called Grandmama, and so she was. Grandmama took the girls trick-or-treating when they were younger. She also loved to take them to movies. Grandmama was always generous with the girls. She was so proud that they were both nurses and would certainly share that fact with many of her caregivers and nurses. They were both by her side when she passed.
Sharon was preceded in death by her mother Thelma Kibbee Barber Myers; her father Leslie Morton Barber; her stepfather Sam George Myers; and her brother Kenneth Howard Barber. Sharon is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Tom Trammell; her daughter and son-in-law Courtney and Bryant Smith; her two granddaughters Jordan and McKenna Trammell; and her nephew and his wife George and Reanne Barber as well as their daughters Allison and Claire Barber.
Our family would like to say a special thank you to the staff and caregivers from The Farrington at Tanglewood where she spent the last six years. She was proud to be the head of the Resident’s Council. She enjoyed spending time with friends, playing Bingo and watching her favorite game shows. And watch out when it was trivia day. She was a ringer!
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Waltrip Funeral Directors located in Spring Branch at 1415 Campbell Road, Houston, Texas 77055. A reception will follow the service.
