Middle daughter to Frankie and Jerry Jefferson was a joy to us. Sheryl displayed a spark unlike any other. She could light up a room with only a smile, and who could forget that signature laugh. These are the things that captured my heart years ago. After finishing high school, Sheryl began to make her mark in the world. She began working for Stewart Title Company. After a couple of years, she moved to the Texas Department of Transportation. “Shell”, as we called her, moved up in the ranks for TXDOT. Upon retirement she rose to the rank of Assistant Director of Right-of-Way. In latter years before retirement Sheryl had a battle with Cancer. Chemotherapy and radiation took a toll on her body. Slowly it wore her down, so she retired in October 2010.
After a brief rest for her body, her mind told her “It’s Time to Go.” She was pulled out of retirement by the City of Houston, and her old boss who now worked for Dannenbaum Engineering. After a short stint with the city she went all in at Dannenbaum as Manager of their Right-of-Way Department. Here she took on the task of working with the West Harris County Regional Water Authority on a massive water pipeline project. As with all things she did, she was in it 110%. Nights, weekends, sick or ill she was there. The Whole time she was home ill, all she wanted to do was get back to work because she didn’t want to let anyone down.
After Sheryl departed this life, an old family friend called to offer condolences and began to pray and reminded me not of my loss, but of the Great Reunion of Mother and Daughter. So Erika Monique-Nicole, welcome mommy with open arms! Together again.
Thank you, Dot. Sheryl Lynise Jefferson Bookman leaves to rejoice in her Homegoing many relatives, friends, and others.
Thank you Shell
