Taylor "Butch" C Skeete Jr.

August 17, 1940July 28, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Skeete. He entered into Heaven on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, surrounded by family and friends.

Skeete was born in Palestine, TX on August 17, 1940 to Taylor Campbell Skeete and Mary Alice Gee Skeete. He and his family lived in many cities in Texas and finally landed in Weimar, Texas where he graduated from high school.

He attended The University of Texas in Austin from 1958 to 1962. He played basketball and received the Most Valuable Athlete Award in 1962. He was known as “Butch” from elementary through his college years. In 1962, he set a school record that wasn’t matched until 2014. In a single game, he scored the highest field goal percentage of 91.7.

In 1964, he began a long career with State Farm Insurance that lasted until his retirement in 2002. While at State Farm, he developed a lot of friendships and mentored countless agents and employees.

In March 1989, Skeete married the love of his life, Tamara Kelley. They based their marriage on loving, laughing and enjoying their life together. They were members of Sagemont Church where Skeete loved the Co-Ed Bible Study led by James and Sharon Bouvier. Skeete was one of the original members of the “Golf Cart Ministry” team.

Skeete was a long-time member of Golfcrest Country Club where he loved playing golf! He and Tamara were very active members and made life-long friends along the way.

Skeete is preceded in death by his father Taylor Sr, his mother Mary Alice and his brother, Bob Skeete. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Tamara Skeete, his two daughters Sheryl (Jeff) Blanken and Stacy (Curtis) Barber, his grandchildren Britney (Justin) Hamberg, Taylor Blanken and Austin Salyer and his great granddaughter Brooklynn Hamberg. He is also survived by his Aunt and Uncle Carol & James Huddleston and their children Bryan (Trish) and Brent Huddleston, and his sister-in-law Dee Skeete and her children Jed (Monica) and Debbie Skeete and Gwen Langenberg, the mother of his daughters.

Skeete (and his sense of humor) will be greatly missed by many friends and extended family. He was fond of saying, “I was born in Texas - I will die in Texas”.

Many thanks and appreciation to his wonderful caregivers, Donna Ferreri, Silvia Cordova and Alice Herrera. They helped Tamara give Skeete a comfortable and happy life.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 7, 2020 at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale St, Houston, TX 77023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A private family funeral will follow. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM. For those unable to attend, Forest Park will stream the service on their Facebook Page.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Alzheimer’s Association @, the NVISION Project at Sagemont Church @, or The Bridge Over Troubled Waters in Pasadena @

Skeete hired me into leadership in 1984 and I realized later in life the great personal mentor he was to me. We often went to breakfast and lunch (including shopping at the mall) and value all those life lessons and time we spent together. So many great memories and truly sad he's passed. My condolences to family and the many friends he's left behind.

I met Skeete in ‘92 when he hired me. He was a fair and honorable man and I am forever grateful for giving me the employment opportunity and life lessons that we shared.
He was one of the good guys and will be missed.
