Terry was born in 1938 in Bellwood, Louisiana to Hollice and Joyce Booty and raised in nearby Kisatchie. He was the second of three boys who all graduated from Northwestern State University in Education.
In 1958, Terry worked as an Educator, starting at Oil City, Louisiana, teaching 7th graders. There he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Anne Snellgrove (Betty), in the faculty lounge. The happy couple soon married, moved into their Shreveport home, and added three girls to their family, Terri Elizabeth, Angela Dawn, and Allison Susanne.
Terry’s teaching career included math, science, physical education, and outdoor education. After moving from Oil City, Terry then taught at Hamilton Terrace Junior High and Ridgewood Junior High School. At Ridgewood, he became a Math Coordinator and then an Assistant Principal. In his years as an educator, Terry touched the lives of thousands of students and their families. Students connected with him and respected him. Those who saw him out and about in Shreveport were quick to recognize him and come up and tell him how much he affected their lives. He was always humbled by the encounters.
Terry and Betty were faithful members of Summer Grove United Methodist Church for over 60 years. For many years during that time, Terry was active in Men’s Group, sang in the Choir, taught Sunday School, served Meals on Wheels with Betty, and built wheelchair ramps.
Terry had many interests including, camping, boating, fishing, hunting, water and snow skiing, square dancing, attending gospel and country music concerts, singing with Joyful Noise at retirement communities, and making memories with his family and friends. However, his favorite daily hobby was telling the very best stories ever.
Terry is preceded in death by his father and mother, Hollice and Joyce Beasley Booty; his brothers, Theodore and Roland Booty; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Agatha Larson Snellgrove. His memory will be cherished by his wife, Elizabeth Snellgrove Booty; his daughters, Terri Newbolt, Angela Smith (Daniel), Allison Booty (Jeff Jessup); grandchildren Terry “Ty” (Megan) and Caroline Gaston, Emily and Jacob Smith, and Samantha and Shelby Sheats; great-grandchildren Caleb and Lauren Gaston; extended family, Jeff and Regina White and their children, Madalyn, Garrett, and Anna Leigh; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the exceptionally kind and professional personnel at Spring Creek Village and Devotion Hospice for the care, support, and love they showed Terry during the last two years.
