She was a resident of the city of Houston all her life.
She spent her childhood surrounded by a loving immediate family and a large extended family. She had so many wonderful memories she was eager to remember and share.
She was a straight A student who graduated from Regan High School in 1954. Additionally, she earned more than one Varsity Letter.
After graduation, she went to work for Shell Oil. She was so proud that she was able to secure such a desirable position right out of High School.
She married her one and only love Roy Caesar, in 1955. The union remained strong for 54 years until Roy's death in 2009.
She gave birth to two children, Karen and Wallace.
Her son Wallace became extremely ill around the age of 3. She vowed to God that if He would let her son live, she would never work outside of her home again. She kept that vow all the remaining days of their childhood.
As her children were growing up, she was a Cub Scout leader and the Leader of Girl Scout Troop 1294 for many years. She was also a Girl Scout Neighborhood Chairman. The Girl Scouts recognized her service by awarding her the Thanks Badge 1, which is the highest honor they can give.
She loved her neighborhood, Bammel Forest, and stated on more than one occasion that her "roots run to the center of the Earth" in the yard she loved so much. She was an avid gardener and passed on her love of plants to her daughter and granddaughter.
She was President of the Bammel Forest Garden Club and the editor of the Bammel Bull for a number of years.
She was a beloved mother and a wonderful Mimi to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She loved her church, Cornerstone Baptist, and devoted numerous years of her life to being a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher for the children of the church of as well as led on the Ladies Council. Others said that Thelma was a godly woman who was quiet but powerful with her message to women of the church. In her service, Thelma showed the love of Jesus everyday.
She lived a beautiful life, but this earth was not her home. Thelma succumbed to a long struggle with Alzheimer's on January 18, 2022. We have confidence that she is now at peace in the presence of God.
She is survived by her two children, Karen Johns and Wallace Caesar, her two grandchildren, Bill Johns (wife Renee) and Lori Labian(husband Derek) and her four grandchildren Ember Johns, Greyson Labian, Alex Labian and Sutton Labian. She has one living sister Carolyn Gentry and numerous nieces and nephews.
