Thomas Jackson Cooper died on November 12, 2012. He was born June 23, 1939, in Georgetown, Texas, to Tommie and Ona Lee Cooper. His family moved to Houston in 1952. After graduating from Lamar High School, he attended Texas A&M University and was in the Texas Aggie Band. He completed his bachelors degree at Sam Houston State University. Tom worked in the Houston Chronicle mail room for about forty years.
In retirement, he filled his time pursuing his hobbies and was a member of the Bellaire Coin Club, Pasadena Coin Club and Greater Houston Coin Club. For several years, he has been a sponsor of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston and was a regular attendee at Houston Grand Opera and Opera in the Heights productions.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, by infant twin sisters Caroline and Suzanne Cooper, and by younger brother Bill Cooper. He is survived by his sisters Connie Byers and her husband John, Bette Lambert and her husband Bill, good friend Kulla Markantonis, numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the excellent caregivers he has had during various hospitalizations this year with special thanks to Dr. Ariel Velasco, Dr. Shiraz Dhanani and the wonderful staff at Memorial Da Vita Dialysis.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 17, 2012, in the chapel of Waltrip Funeral Directors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Tom’s memory to the Houston Food Bank, 535 Portwall St. Houston, TX 77029 (www.houstonfoodbank.org) or to the charity of your choice.
