Thomas Wayne Horton went home to be with his Savior on February 25, 2021, after a long courageous battle with heart failure. Even his last week of life when he could no longer walk, he wanted to have a very risky procedure to try to live longer. He would have been 92 this next Friday. His steadfast faith guided him through many heartbreaking losses in his life. Wayne was born in Coleman, Texas, to Emmett and Lillie Horton. Because of his dad’s job, his family moved frequently throughout his childhood. Wayne met his wife, Evangeline, through her brother, Billy, who was his best friend. He and Evangeline were married over 68 years. They had four children and settled in Houston for most of their marriage.
Wayne loved flying airplanes and having his pilot’s license was one of his greatest joys. He managed outdoor movie theaters early in his career and then became licensed in real estate management. No one loved working more than he did. He worked part time even into his early 80’s and looked forward to getting up and dressing for work. Longtime member of First Colony Bible Chapel and Redeemer Bible Fellowship, he loved his church and worshipping his Lord was a priority in his long life. Wayne loyally served on the board of Sandy Creek Bible Camp for many years and volunteered his time for decades cooking for summer camps. He will be remembered by all for his great sense of humor and spreading laughter wherever he went. For over ten years, he volunteered at the front desk of Memorial Southwest Hospital and was so proud of his time there. He was well loved and we were blessed by his almost 92 years.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Evangeline, his daughter, Stephenie, and son-in-law, Bruce. His grandchildren - Brittany, Lindsay, Amanda, Evan Wayne, and Jackson Key, whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Zona, and chosen daughter, Melody.
Wayne was preceded in death by his children, Gretchen, Timothy, and Jennifer.
