OBITUARY

Thomas Joseph Walden

August 27, 1948December 25, 2012

Thomas Joseph Walden Sr., known as “T” by his grandsons, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 25, 2012, after a brief illness. Tom was a native Houstonian and a graduate of Texas A&M University. After graduating in 1971, he returned to Houston to begin a career in banking and later in the insurance industry. He was one of the founders of Insurance Alliance, where he served as Senior Vice President. He was active in numerous insurance advisory councils, boards of directors and committees.

Tom had a passion for history, specifically, World War I/II aviation and was a collector of rare aviation memorabilia, Texas history, and other military campaigns. He was an avid cyclist and runner, qualifying and completing the Boston Marathon twice. He spent many years teaching Sunday school and mentoring young people in their faith. Most of all, he was passionate about his children and his three precious grandsons. After Tom’s daughter and son-in-law moved to Washington, D.C., he began planning “T’s Tours” around the D.C. museums and historical sites for his grandsons.

Tom was born on August 27, 1948 to Tom and Melba Walden in Houston, Texas. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved children, Emily Walden Pedersen and husband, Luke, Thomas Joseph Walden Jr., and their mother Donna Rudd Walden; grandchildren Asher Kristian, Connor Luke, and Blake Thomas Pedersen; cousin Judy Walden Stipp and husband Louis; other family members and many good friends.

Thank you, Tommy, for rising to the challenge of taking the preacher's kid to her senior prom.

Ms. Walden, Emily and Thomas,
I'm really sorry to hear about Mr. Walden/your dad. My mom told me about what happened and I wanted to let y'all know I'm thinking about all of you. I remember your dad stopped by our house in Des Moines on his trip to Grinnell, Iowa!
Take care, Amy Jones

I was devastated to hear the news of your passing but I know how sick you were these last few weeks. I know you are in Heaven looking down on us and that we have a new Guardian Angel. You were the world to me and it is hard to be without you. Tommy, you left way too soon but I am forever grateful that you were my best friend. There will never be any one like you. You were so caring, kind and generous.
My heartfelt prayers for healing are with your family and I hope that they are comforted by His love. Emily and Thomas, please know how much he loved you and talked about you constantly. He could not have been prouder of his kids and grandkids. He shared pictures every time that he got one. Until we are reunited in Heaven…

Waltrip 67 would not have been the same without Tommy!

We are thinking of you, Emily, Thomas, and Donna. "T" went by "Tommy" when we were all childhood friends in the Heights at FBC ... many of us reminisced today about those days when Tommy was always getting everyone together ... Lyndal/Tommy/Mike were always on an adventure, and Tommy usually planned it. We will look forward to the day when we all get together with the Lord Jesus and all who love Him. Until then, we will think of all of you, his family ... may God bless you with lots of good memories and much hope.

Such a shock! Tommy was such a friendly, fit guy, hard to believe. Many years ago, he drove to our house in the Woodlands during a horrible rainstorm to visit with other high school buddies--great fun. And we saw one another at Waltrip reunions, scattered emails through the years. We especially enjoyed the 50th Anny. with Tommy--the only guy out there dancing with all the girls! He will be missed by all. My hope for healing and heartfelt prayers to his family.

To the loved ones of Tommy, I give my heartfelt hugs to you. I know this is a very tough time and there is nothing compared to the loss of a loved one who is such a big part of our life here. I am glad that Tommy had faith in Christ and as a Christian I can say, "See you again Tommy." Tommy and I were cheerleaders at Waltrip HS together. He was a good young man and he will be missed at the class reunions too but it's nice to remember there will be that Great Reunion later for God's children.
V-I-C-T-O-R-Y - Victory, Victory that's our cry in Christ!

Tommy was a good friend to me forty years and more ago. I am sure I am just one of a great number of people who were blessed by his life. My thoughts and prayers go out to you, his family and loved ones.
