

Tommy "TL" Hewitt Sr. was born in Lufkin, TX on July 26, 1947 to Louie H. Hewitt and Tiney Lee Wynn. Tommy graduated from Dunbar High School in 1965. He attended Stephen F. Austin State University from 1965-1966 before going to serve in the military.
Tommy married Barbara L. Rogers in Fall of 1969 and was married for 26 years before her death in 1995. To this union, six children were born.
SFC Tommy Hewitt was a veteran of the Vietnam War era and Peacetime. He served in the Army from February 18, 1969 to May 31, 1989. He earned several medals and citations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Army Commendation medal, Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon to name a few. He served his country honorably and with distinction as a Military Police Officer and Correctional Specialist. His enlistment began at Ft. Bliss, Texas on February 18, 1969. His military career included two seperate tours in Korea and a tour in Germany. His military career culminated after receiving the rank of Sergeany First Class (E7) and completing his 20 year enlistment. His attention to detail, discipline and patriotism that he learned while in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest.
Tommy returned to his hometown of Lufkin, TX after retiring from the military, which at that time he began a career in management at Auto Zone where he later retired. Tommy was a football enthusiast and enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends in his past-time.
Tommy was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Hewitt, his parents, Louie Hewitt and Tiney Wynn; sisters, Mary Lee Bronson Gilmore, Annie Jean Hardiman, Birda Marie Haynes; and brother, Nathaniel Hewitt. Left to cherish his legacy are his six children; Tommy Hewitt Jr. of Porter, TX, Anthony Hewitt (April) of Humble, TX, Stephanie Hewitt of Houston, TX, Angela Hewitt of Humble, TX, Kenny Hewitt (LaCrystal) of Tyler, TX and Leonard Hewitt of Houston, TX; nine grandchildren, Trayvon, Chelsie, Jorden, Catera, Levius, Anthony Jr., Kamron, Kaden and Austin; and one brother, L.H. Hewitt and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 16, 2016 in the Chapel of Earthman Resthaven. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery.
