Born in Houston on December 14, 1961, Tracye grew up in the historic neighborhoods of The Heights and Acres Homes. She graduated from Waltrip Senior High School before attending the University of Houston, where she earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Technology. Tracye went on to dedicate decades of service to the Houston Independent School District, supporting students, staff, and educators across Fleming Middle School, Key Middle School, and the HISD Administration Building.
A woman of deep and enduring faith, Tracye was baptized at Second Baptist Church and later became a devoted member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Raymond H. Hillis.
On New Year’s Eve, 2009, Tracye married the love of her life, Darrell Keith Moore. Darrell, an avid cowboy enthusiast, held a singular place in her heart as her first, only, and forever husband. Their shared life was marked by deep affection, devotion, and cherished memories. Following Darrell’s passing, Tracye found support and comfort from Jeff Tramell and brother-in-law, Jeffrey Thomas, who remains a dear friend to the family.
While Tracye was widely known for her radiant warmth and hospitality, she was also a gentle, reserved woman who treasured her peace and kept her heart’s deepest thoughts carefully guarded. Her trust was a sacred gift, shared only within an intimate, unbreakable inner circle. For 49 years, her lifelong best friend Donna Renee Thomas-Smith served as her confidante, sharing decades of private laughter and unshakeable loyalty. Alongside Donna, her dear cousin Sue held that same treasured place in her soul— forming a close-knit bond where Tracye could open up completely, speak without reservation, and feel deeply understood.
Outside of work, Tracye embraced joy and refinement. She loved traveling, cheering on the Houston Texans, and keeping up with her favorite daytime dramas, including The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, and Beyond the Gates. Tracye was a celebrated hostess who loved bringing loved ones together with lavish serving displays, thoughtful themes, and a warm, luxurious ambience.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Johnnie Mason and Ruby Lee Mason, and her cherished husband, Darrell Keith Moore.
Tracye’s legacy of elegance, quiet grace, and steadfast love is carried on by her lifelong best friend, Donna Renee Thomas-Smith; her beloved cousin, Sue; her darling Jeff Tramell; her loving god-sister, Shaniquia Nicole Lewis; her cherished godchildren, Sha’Keitha Latietra Lewis and Shay Alexander; as well as a loving community of extended family, church family, and dear friends.
