Vara Jane “VJ” Koehn, born on February 22, 1937 in Austin, Texas, lost her battle with cancer on July 15, 2021. VJ was a crawfish eating, Astros loving fanatic who enjoyed her quick trips to the casino to play some video poker. She was very selfless and always put the wants and needs of everyone else ahead of her own.
VJ is survived by her children, Sheryl Koehn, Ronnie Koehn and wife, Lynda, Shanna Koehn (Mike) and Connie Bryant; grandchildren; Kandy Reddoch, Heather Koehn, Justin Terry and wife, Jessica, Jason Terry and wife, Brandi, Amber Hickman and husband, Taylor, April Piccione and husband, Trevor, Brittany Stewart, Brent Bay, Ashley Bryant and fiancé, Beaudry Barnett and Colby Bryant and fiancé, Brittany Martinez; and 16 great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Louis and her son, Mike.
In the early years VJ had several hobbies and opened a ceramic shop while the kids were young. VJ and Louis enjoyed hunting and spending time with family and friends at the Special ‘K’ Ranch in the Texas Hill Country or fishing and enjoying water sports at the bayhouse. They were heavily involved in the HLS&R and enjoyed entertaining guests in the Rodeo skyboxes. VJ was a member of the Lady Lambs Committee and helped raise funds for local scholarships. VJ and Louis were also members of “The Brindle Bull” BBQ cooking team and enjoyed entertaining and competing in the Rodeo BBQ Cook Off.
Visitation with the family was held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 19, 2021 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, where a Celebration of Life Service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the R.L. Waltrip Venue. Interment followed at Woodlawn Garden of Memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
