Vern is survived by his beloved partner, Dee Fenner; father, Vernon Oakum (Vicki); mother, Valerie Van Pelt Carlson (Gordon); sons, Vernon Allen Oakum and Alexander Richard Oakum. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert L. Oakum (Susann), Todd Oakum and step-brother, Daniel Carlson, as well as several uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Family and friends gathered and shared memories of Vern during a celebration of his life at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7th in the chapel of Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, Texas.
