He confessed faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church in Mound Bayou. Growing up working on his family's farm, Victor learned the importance of discipline, hard work, and perseverance. Those values shaped his character and stayed with him throughout his academic pursuits and his career.
Victor attended public schools in Mound Bayou, graduating from the town's John F. Kennedy High School in 1972. That same year, he moved to Houston, Texas, to attend Texas Southern University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in engineering in 1976.
After college, he began a career as an electrical engineer with Southwestern Bell, later AT&T. Over more than four decades, he built a record of steady, dedicated service through years of change in the telecommunications industry, retiring in December 2019.
Beyond his work, Victor was a man of broad interests and enduring curiosity. In his early adulthood, he learned karate and enjoyed bowling. He loved to travel and learn about the world beyond his immediate surroundings. An avid reader, he collected books throughout his life and nurtured a love of reading and learning in his younger siblings. Family members often turned to him for advice because of his knowledge of many subjects, especially technology and cars.
Through his employment at Southwestern Bell, Victor met and courted Barbara Lynette Myers. The two were united in holy matrimony on February 23, 1985, and were blessed with two sons, Quincy and Stedmann.
A longtime member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Victor worshipped under the leadership of Reverend Edwin Davis.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara Myers Coleman; a brother, Stafford Cecil Coleman; and a sister, Debra Ann Coleman.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his sons, Quincy Lamont Coleman (Anna) and Stedmann Maxwell Coleman (Brittaneé), both of Houston; three grandsons, Mycah Coleman, Joshua Coleman, and Dillon Coleman; one brother, Granville Coleman (Eloise) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; four sisters, Juanita Bradshaw (Richard) of Chicago, Illinois; Barbara C. Latham of Cleveland, Mississippi; Judge Linda F. Coleman of Mound Bayou, Mississippi; and Glenda L. Coleman, MD.; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
