Viola is preceded in death by her mother, Esther Schmidt Bobo; father, Matthew Johnson; first husband, Leonard Ernest Winkelman; second husband, Rollo Rask; son, Victor Leonard Winkelman; sister, Della Mae Johnson Lewis Bush; brother, Charles Bobo; stepbrothers, J. W. Bobo and A. J. Bobo; stepsister, Maxine Compton; and stepfather, J. D. Bobo.
She is survived by brothers, Tommy Bobo, John Bobo, Jeff Bobo, and sister, Leanna Bobo Parker; her children, Elizabeth Anne Winkelman Schulte, Mary Esther Winkelman Villarreal, David Winkelman, and John Winkelman. Also surviving are her twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, two step grandchildren and fourteen step great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
The work Viola truly loved was teaching Kindergarten at St. Mark Lutheran School. She then held several administrative jobs in the insurance industry. Viola enjoyed volunteering, especially for her church. In later years she spent many hours working in her flower gardens, even when confined to a wheelchair. Viola was known by many as a kind, giving, unselfish woman, with a big heart.
Family and friends gathered and shared memories during a visitation at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 22 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas, where funeral services followed in the sanctuary at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services and interment followed at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, also in Houston.
