Viona Krakow Howe-Steinsiek

As a young girl she grew up on a dairy farm during the depression. She said they were not affected by it that much because the farm provided for them and her father raised pheasants and quails. In her high school years she lived with her Aunt Hattie and Uncle Elmer and graduated from Oconomowoc High School in 1949. She entered the 4H county fair with a dress she had sewn and won 1st Place. She also played softball and was “Homerun Queen”. At the age of 17, she was employed by the Oconomowoc Canning Co. On September 1, 1951 she married Robert “Bob” Howe and had 3 daughters. She attended Columbia County Normal School where she earned her teaching license. In 1962 they moved to Texas where she worked for HL&P for over 25 yrs. Vi also worked more than one job so she could provide for her family. Her family was her top priority.

The family became members of St. Andrew Lutheran around 1962 till present. Through the years Viona held several positions within the church and also with LWML Daytimers and LWML White Oak Circuit. She enjoyed playing handbells, serving as an Altar guild and going on outings with the 39ers and we can’t forget Mexican Train and Chicken Foot. She loved volunteering for anything that served the Lord. We always had a laugh when we couldn’t locate her, “What day is it?” Wednesday is Midweek, Tuesday is Food Pantry… She loved to travel within the states and world travels, she once road a camel in Qatar and she would have gone skydiving if her doctor had allowed. We would always go to the beach and Camp Warnecke every year with the Needhams and the Bonds and go tubing. The funny thing is she couldn’t swim! Once she told me, she almost drowned the instructor. Vi loved making things for others and especially her family. In high school she made all our drill team outfits, show outfits and also Prom dresses. Every

Grandchild and Great Grandchild have their own special blankets. There are several blankets waiting for the Great-Great Grandchildren. In January of 2017 she had the courage to remarry and give love another chance to Edgar Steinsiek.

Viona was preceded in death by her parents, Hebert and Ilona Krakow, her sister Helen Foulke, her brother John Krakow and her husbands Robert Howe and Edgar Steinsiek.

She is survived by her daughters, Denise Davis (Max), Julie Dwiggins (J.B.) and Robin Emmott (Steve). Her sister Wilma Christian, brother Richard Krakow (Rosalie)and numerous nieces and nephews.

Grandchildren: Richard Schon (Katie), Heather Garcia (John), Cheryl Paladino (Jay), Chris Linn (Rachel), Jennifer McGowen, Remi Wilfong (Chuck)

Great- Grandchildren: Jakub, Cora, Kai, Jackie, Mackenzie, Kennedy, McKenna, Hanna, Torrie and Violet

The Family would like to thank Village on the Park – Steeplechase for assisting her these last 2 yrs. You were her second family and she loved each and everyone of you very much. We would also like to thank Emerald Care – Hospice for caring for her.

Visitation will be held at Waltrip Funeral Directors on Friday, August 21st from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will take place on the following day, Saturday, August 22nd beginning at 10:30 am at Waltrip Funeral Directors. Committal service to follow at Forest Park Westheimer.
