On May 15, 1921, two incredible people were born – Virgie Lee Sexton at 2:30 AM and John Henry (Henny) Locke at 5:00 AM. Henny would always say that he married an older woman, since Virgie was 2 ½ hours older.
Virgie was born and raised in Houston, where she met and married Henny in 1942. They raised 5 kids together.
In 1961, the Locke clan moved to Deer Park to an incredible neighborhood on Norwood Street. These neighbors still stay in close contact after all these years.
Church meant an awful lot to Virgie. She was a charter member of Park Memorial Baptist Church in Houston. After moving to Deer Park, the family became avid members of First Baptist Church. Upon retirement, membership was moved to South Main Baptist Church Pasadena. In Austin, she joined Sunset Canyon Baptist Church, where she maintained her membership throughout the rest of her life.
The love of her life died in March, 1997. She would always say “when you’ve had the best, why would you look for anyone else”.
In 2008, Virgie moved to Austin, where she lived the remainder of her 99 ½ years.
Virgie was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Locke, her oldest son, Robert Edward “Bob” Locke, and a great-great-grandchild, Eyerusalam. She is survived by son, Wayne Locke and wife Alicia of Austin, Texas; daughters Karen Morley and husband Jim of Huntsville, Texas; Nancy Huebner and husband David of Spring Hill, Tennessee; Denise Ramey and husband Chris of Cedar Park, Texas;, Texas; and daughter-in-law Valerie Locke of Austin, Texas. Grandchildren are John Locke, Joe Locke, Andrew Locke, Shawna Morley Reid, Jeremy Morley, Nathan Huebner, Heidi Huebner Weimer, Larissa Huebner Westerfield, Micah Huebner, Jordan Ramey, Kristin Ramey Michael, and Thomas Ramey. There are also 38 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by a sister, Joan Lasiter, and a sister-in-law, Kay Sexton.
The family wishes to express heartfelt, loving gratitude to her hospice team, especially Harmony and Dee.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, one of her favorite charities, in her memory.
