Virginia Campo Freitag

She is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Frances Bailey, Vincent Campo, and Rose Ulrich; and her grandson, Scott Adkins Jr. Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Gilbert Alden Freitag; their five children, Denise Kubecka (James), Gilbert Alan Freitag (Emmy), Darlene LeBrock (David), Sharlene Miller (Mike), and Theresa Adkins (Ken); and 12 grandchildren, Stephanie Kubecka LeDuc (Nelson), Megan Kubecka, Paul Miller (Hannah), Steven Kubecka, Brandi Adkins, Mason Kubecka, Brittany Miller, Katie Freitag, Thomas Adkins, Kristen LeBrock, Madison LeBrock, and Allison Adkins; and countless other extended family members and friends.

In looking for a way to describe Virginia’s mission in life, one might look to words from Matthew 20:26, “Whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant.” If that is the case, she set the bar high when modeling what it means to be a great wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Whether it was the countless hours driving carpools, sewing dresses, cooking family dinners, or embracing her favorite title of “grandma”, Virginia did so with a servant heart. She planned family cross-country camping trips that seemed to always go through Colorado, opened the family home to hundreds of other railfans for Layout Tours and San Jacinto Model Railroad Club Christmas parties, and coordinated events from birthday parties to weddings to activities at local, state, and national Model Railroad conventions without ever asking for anything in return.

The joy her actions gave others was enough. If there was any question about her deep belief in living a life of service to others, it was answered by her unwavering devotion to and care for her husband over the twelve years since his stroke.

A visitation for Virginia will be held Monday, April 25, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, and with a rosary at 8:00 PM.

An additional short visitation will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 7250 Harrisburg Blvd, Houston, TX 77011. A funeral mass will begin at 11:00 AM with a reception after the mass from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the parish hall. A procession will leave the church at 2:30 PM for a graveside service at 3:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
