Wanda Jo Beard

Wanda Jo Beard Wanda Jo Beard, 80, passed away Nov. 27, 2010, in Garrison, Texas. She was born May 24, 1930, in Olton, Texas, to Benjamin Franklin Horne and Agnes Horne. She graduated from Reagan High School in Houston in 1948 and married George Raymond Beard on Aug. 14, 1948. They were married for 56 years at the time of his death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother Lynn Horne and sister Charlene Young. She is survived by daughter Georgiana Lea Phillips and husband Jerry, son James Bruce Beard, grandson Jerry Morris Phillips III and wife Jodi, grandson Raymond Aaron Phillips, and four great-grandchildren: Noah Aiden Phillips, Seth Martin Phillips, Raylan Eden Phillips and Owen George Phillips. She is also survived by sisters Doris Clark, Frankie Edwards and Linda Hambrick; brother Glenn Horne; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Wanda was an active member of Holly Springs Baptist Church in Garrison, Texas, and enjoyed many years as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston. Pastor Homer Murray of Holly Springs Baptist Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution to Holly Springs Baptist Church or to MD Anderson Cancer Center would be appreciated.
