Warren Schmalenberger, 66, passed away on November 14, 2014. Warren was born in Denver, Colorado on March 8, 1948 to parents Harold and Rose Schmalenberger. His childhood was split between Denver and Albuquerque, New Mexico. He went on to attend the St. John’s College in Santa Fe, where he received a bachelors degree from St. Johns College’s "Great Books Program.” He went on to earn his MBA while under the guidance of individuals who would later become Nobel Prize Laureates at The University of Chicago, including Milton Friedman who would go on to be one of Warren’s mentors while he earned his MBA.
Warren is survived by his wife, Dola Schmalenberger, and children Eric and Alyssa. Dola was to Warren a loving partner, business advisor, and constant inspiration. They were married June 19, 1976 in an intimate service in San Fransisco, California, the city where they first fell in love. Eric (1982) and Alyssa (1985) were born into a union of two very unique and passionate parents. They soon moved to Texas, which they have called home for almost 30 years. Warren, a man whose dreams were bigger then most could ever hope to imagine, encouraged the same out of his family. He instilled in his family members a yearning for adventure, pride in self expression, and unending thirst to be the architects of their own fate.
Warren was an avid reader whose questioning mind covered every topic, an amateur photographer with an incredible eye, an epicurean lover of food and drink, and a brilliant conversationalist who would often chat and debate with friends and companions long into the evening.
Warren F. Schmalenberger was the founder and chief executive officer of Dorchester Capital Management Company, a Houston-based company focused on designing and improving techniques for measuring and managing risk in the investment community. Mr. Schmalenberger was responsible for the company's strategic direction, as well as product development.
