Willie was born to Ernesto and Evangelina Barrera on February 28, 1926 in Corpus Christi, Texas where he was raised and educated. Willie and Gloria were life long friends of my parents, Joe and Maria Zamora, in Corpus Christi, Texas. On many occasions I would see them together at one of my childhood birthday parties or through photos from a trip to Mexico or other travels. Willie and Gloria and my parents were part of that "great generation" that survived the World War and we are forever indebted to them for their sacrifices. My dad died in 1977 but my mom is doing well and living near me at a retirement community in Round Rock, Tx. She was saddened to hear about Willie and sends her prayers and best wishes. Mom doesn't travel well any more but maybe we can manage a trip to visit Gloria soon. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Willie and the entire Barrera Family.
