Bill graduated from San Jacinto High School and went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Houston. During the Korean War, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed outside Atlanta, where he was to develop and write Technical Manuals.
For many years, Bill owned and operated Riteway Auto Service in the Almeda area. He also built one of the first self-service car wash facilities of its kind just next door to Riteway, and subsequently, several other new locations followed. He later owned and enjoyed Quarter Horses and the many racing activities involved with that sport.
In 1996, Bill retired to Burton, Texas, where he spent time on the City Council, was a member of American Legion Post #0345, and enjoyed rebuilding antique cars and old engines in his shop.
Bill is survived by his loving devoted wife of 65 years, Doris Padgett Brouse; their children, Valorie Brouse Rinn and her husband James, Vicki Jenice Brouse, Susan Brouse Sandel and her husband Tim, and James Ray Brouse. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jamie Brouse Rice, Jonathan Brouse, Hannah Brouse; his great grandchildren, Amanda and Benjamin Rice and by his sister-in-law, Lesley Brouse. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Michael Brouse.
Family and friends gathered and shared memories of this wonderful man’s life during a visitation from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Waltrip Funeral Directors in Houston, Texas. In keeping with Bill’s wishes, a private family burial was held at a later date.
